We had a brilliant evening thanks to Katie! Her cooking was incredible - we had the Asian menu which was all cooked from scratch and the portion sizes were very generous. Katie is extremely warm and friendly, we very much enjoyed her company as well as the food. She cleared everything up without leaving a trace behind! Thanks so much for a great evening, we would definitely recommend to anyone thinking of hiring a private chef! X

Firstly I would like to say my experience with you has been great, good communication, easy to use and actually enjoyable. I read about your story and was impressed by your journey so I decided to take the plunge to use you, instead going with our usual tried and tested celebration dinner options. Of cooking ourselves or a restaurant. Sat 23rd Nov was a the date set for a small intimate family gathering to celebrate my sister’s 60th birthday. We booked a place in Bicester, Oxfordshire a good half way spot with good transport links to Birmingham & London. Dinner was the main event after a morning of travel & family activities. We were all looking forward to the meal and the menu was carefully chosen to meet our requirements. However the chefs were terrible. And shouldn’t be called chefs. They can’t cook, present or serve food. I read on your website that issues should be raised with the chefs on the day. This wasn’t possible for two reasons 1. the chefs were bickering & rude. 2. the evening was already spoilt, I wasn’t in a position to ruin the evening further for my family & guests and especially the birthday girl. We are a polite family and didn’t I what to cause upset & confrontation in front of family & guests. I have reached out on WhatsApp but would now like my message to be taken up with a member of staff. Here is a brief outline of the situation to give you an idea of why a refund is the only reasonable outcome. The most serious point, I was lead to believe I was in contact with chef Tanya, my communication was with her, it was her profile, her name on the chat, her photos and my booking was solely with her. However on the day Cristina arrived (with Tanya) and prepared the food. My booking with Tanya not Cristina. At no point was I made aware of this. At no point did Tanya introduce Cristina and let me know she’ll be running the session. Apparently I even spoke to Cristina on the phone. However I was lead to believe it was Tanya. Cristina did not introduce herself to me. The main areas of concern: - late to serve 8:20pm not 7pm, dessert at 9.40pm - ⁠bickering whole time making for a very uncomfortable atmosphere. - ⁠most of the food was cheap shop bought/packet and they just reassembled it into things that didn’t taste good - ⁠ the food they did cook didn’t taste good at all - ⁠raw dough balls - ⁠left the house in a rush as their taxi was waiting and were left with dirty dishes, work surfaces and table not cleaned - the kitchen was a mess. - ⁠we had to buy cleaning equipment at 10pm at night, to clean up everything. - ⁠burned a pot & bowl. - ⁠rude to us when we were trying to go into the kitchen. - ⁠lady booked didn’t even cook. After 5 hours spent in the kitchen, every utensils, pot, pan, plate and bowl was used. We were left feeling uncomfortable and very disappointed. This was supposed be a special, family occasion.

Chef Ben was fantastic! He arrived punctually and got to work straight away with limited space. Ben kept me informed as plans changed due to space at the venue and made sure to introduce each dish as we ate. Ben had the perfect level of professionalism and interaction with guests. Food was incredible and catered for guests with allergies without making them feel left out. Bens food made the night and my guests were blown away! He even took some recycling for us to save us a job in the morning!

The issues I would like to raise are as follows: * The chef was not communicative before the event. A number of messages I sent went unanswered. When the chef did reply, I was simply reassured that everything was "100% all in hand", so I took him at his word. * Our final menu to be delivered was never made clear. I had asked for clarifications regarding dietary restrictions (detail below), but these were not forthcoming. I was told "all menu options can be alternated to accommodate all food intolerances and allergies" but it was never made clear exactly how this would be achieved. However, again I took him at his word, assuming that he would make suitable alterations to the menu. * On the day of the event, I heard nothing from the chef. I had to find time to get online to send a message to ask what time the chef would be arriving. I only received an answer 1.5hrs before anyone arrived. * The chef himself did not attend the event. The two people who attended were very nice, but this was not expected or agreed with the chef beforehand. I was expecting the chef I had booked to be there, but he did not. * The chef who did arrive, along with an assistant, was very nervous and anxious. He had difficulty communicating with us as his english was not very good, and also seemed unsure of everything. He did not seem to have enough information relating the dietary requirements I had sent to the chef I had booked with. He seemed unsure about what food he was serving, and had difficulty telling us what it was that we were eating. * I had informed the chef that I had booked with that one diner had a nut allergy that includes pine nuts, and a diner who was pregnant and could not eat certain cheeses. The proposed menu contained pesto (contains pine nuts) and goats cheese (unsuitable during pregnancy unless cooked). I was sure to mention this to the chef during booking more than once, and as I have already mentioned, he simply told me that it was all fine and would be taken care of in the final menu. On the evening, all plates served contained pesto and goats cheese - it was only because we took care to notice this that they were avoided by the diners with dietary requirements. Furthermore, the canapes served were not what was listed on the chosen menu, and one of these also contained hummus (pine nuts) and burrata (unsuitable during pregnancy), so two diners were unable to eat these either. * Having seen the chef who attended and his assistant working in the kitchen, and what they had brought with them, it was clear that almost all the food had been pre-prepared off site and mostly warmed up or plated in our kitchen. The food was ok, but not freshly cooked or prepared. Overall we were disappointed by the quality of what we were served. I know that there is nothing yhangry can do in terms of payment at this stage, but I would appreciate as much help as you can provide in mediating a resolution with the chef. I have messaged him more than once but have so far not received any reply from him. I attach a photgraph of the menu that was served, and can provide all the messages sent and received in communication with the chef in evidence.
