The business quickly gained recognition, won awards, and became a local sensation\u2014but that success came at a price. Working <br>18-hour days, six days a week, Mark found himself burnt out and disconnected from his family. At one point, his kids even started calling him \u201cMoody Margaret\u201d \u2014 a character from Horrid Henry \u2014 because of how stressed and burnt out he was<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"core-block -quote\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><div class=\"core-block -paragraph\">\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>\u201cIt got to the point where they had their own life without me, and I had mine, which revolved entirely around the business. I could feel myself falling out of love with what I was doing, and I started to resent the business that once meant everything to me.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"core-block -paragraph\">\n<p>Then the pandemic hit, and business took another unexpected turn. So when someone offered to buy the business during COVID, he accepted without hesitation. For the first time in years, he prioritised his wellbeing and family, taking time off to reset. It was during this break, in April 2022, that he received a message on Instagram from Yhangry\u2014and from there, a new chapter began.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"core-block -heading\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-back-in-love-with-food\"><strong>Back in Love with Food<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"core-block -paragraph\">\n<p>Since joining yhangry and switching to private cheffing, Chef Mark says the change has been transformative.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"core-block -quote\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><div class=\"core-block -paragraph\">\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>\u201cI now have zero stress, zero pressure, and zero worries, and that\u2019s a massive weight off my shoulders. It\u2019s made me rediscover my passion for food in a way that drives me, but in a much more relaxed manner.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"core-block -paragraph\">\n<p>He credits this shift with helping him fall back in love with cooking. This shift mirrors a growing trend in the culinary industry, as more burnt out chefs move away from the demanding kitchens to find <a href=\"https:\/\/yhangry.com\/how-to-balance-work-life-for-chefs\/\">better work-life balance<\/a> in private cheffing. Yhangry has played a key role in that journey, helping him rediscover joy in his work on his own terms.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"core-block -heading\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Art of Balancing Work and Life<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"core-block -paragraph\">\n<p>One of the key benefits of <a href=\"https:\/\/yhangry.com\/booking\/chef-register\">being a private chef with yhangry<\/a> is the flexibility it offers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"core-block -quote\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><div class=\"core-block -paragraph\">\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>\u201cThe beauty of this job is that I\u2019m still my own boss and I can pick and choose when I want to work, when I want to have a break, how many bookings I want to do, etc.,\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"core-block -paragraph\">\n<p>Although he stays busy year-round with no specific peak season, after particularly hectic stretches\u2014like when he does 13 bookings in 13 days\u2014he prioritises taking little <a href=\"https:\/\/yhangry.com\/f\/private-chefs\/christmas\/\">holidays<\/a> throughout the year to recharge and recover from the physical toll. Mark also makes it a priority to disconnect during the holidays.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"core-block -quote\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><div class=\"core-block -paragraph\">\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>\u201cI always make sure not to work over Christmas because there\u2019s no price on seeing my kids\u2019 smiles on Christmas Day. I will make sure I have at least 5-7 days off during that time.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"core-block -heading\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-reducing-stress-with-preparation\">Reducing Stress with Preparation<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"core-block -paragraph\">\n<p>Chef Mark doesn\u2019t follow any strict habits or routines, as each kitchen is different and comes with its own set of challenges\u2014and with that, its own stresses. To tackle this, he makes sure to gather as much information as possible beforehand. This preparation helps eliminate much of the unknown, making things much easier on the night and allowing him to focus on delivering the best experience.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"core-block -quote\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><div class=\"core-block -paragraph\">\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>\u201cI always ask the guests to send me a link to the property (if it\u2019s a rental) so I can check out the kitchen. I also ask them to send me pictures or videos of the serving equipment and the space itself so I can get a better idea of what to expect.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"core-block -heading\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-staying-true-to-his-style-with-yhangry-0\"><strong>Staying True to His Style with yhangry<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"core-block -paragraph\">\n<p>Chef Mark believes that his personal style and personality are key to keeping the work enjoyable, especially when clients book through yhangry.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"core-block -paragraph\">\n<p>The rise in private dining and<a href=\"https:\/\/yhangry.com\/booking\/chefs\"> bespoke dining experiences<\/a> has shifted how people view meals outside of traditional restaurants, and Chef Mark is excited to be part of that trend. For him, staying true to his style is key to keeping the work enjoyable. Mark is a people person who loves interacting with guests, creating a fun atmosphere, and ensuring a memorable experience.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"core-block -quote\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><div class=\"core-block -paragraph\">\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>\u201cEvery yhangry booking is different and every guest is different, but the one thing that doesn\u2019t change is myself, my personality or my style of food. People book me for all sorts of occasions, and no matter what the dinner party is for, I love giving them something totally different from what they\u2019d normally expect.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"core-block -heading\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>6. Advice for Chefs Feeling Burnt Out<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"core-block -paragraph\">\n<p>Chef Mark\u2019s advice to chefs feeling burnt out in traditional kitchens is straightforward: follow what makes you happy. He shared an eye-opening conversation he had with two Michelin-starred chefs, who, despite the long hours and stress, loved the intensity of their work.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"core-block -quote\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><div class=\"core-block -paragraph\">\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>\u201cThey said that despite at times feeling completely worn out and working long hours, they loved the pressure and loved the intensity of their jobs and weren\u2019t ready to give that buzz up!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"core-block -paragraph\">\n<p>For Mark, the key message is that chefs should do what makes them happy and follow their own path\u2014while staying in love with their passion for food. He\u2019s seen too many incredibly talented chefs fall out of love with cooking because the pressure becomes too much (himself included at one point), and they end up leaving the industry altogether.
